Try Golf: A Gateway to the Green

Story continued from the main page

As the sessions progress, participants refine their technique, learning to control ball flight and understanding the nuances of different shots. They practice essential skills like chipping, pitching, and putting. Throughout these sessions, Pritchard’s attentiveness is evident as he offers concise, tailored instructions to each player, carefully observing their technique and providing specific suggestions for improvement.

After honing their skills at the range, participants move to the course itself. Here, they learn about course etiquette, rules of play, and strategies for navigating different hole layouts. This on-course experience is invaluable, allowing beginners to apply their newly acquired skills in a real golfing environment.

The programme attracts individuals from various backgrounds, each with their own motivation for trying golf. Newcomer Harriet shared, “I’d always wanted to try golf, and now I finally have the time.” Kirsten adds, “My family enjoys it, so I wanted to give it a try.” Billy and Andrea are there to share in the experience with each other and their young son’s newfound passion for golf.

Many participants see golf as a way to stay active and embrace a new challenge. Harriet notes, “I want to keep active, and golf makes me focus in a way that drowns out all my other thoughts.”

Billy offers a compelling testimonial about Pritchard’s skill as an instructor: “We came here after trying another club, and one lesson with Ian was all it took. Now we see our son’s exponential growth, and here we all are, learning golf.”

The Try Golf adult learners are benefiting from Pritchard’s focused attention and expertise. His ability to break down complex movements into understandable components, coupled with his encouraging teaching style, instills confidence in even the most hesitant beginners.

When asked if they found the golfing experience therapeutic, both Kirsten and Harriet respond with an emphatic “Absolutely!” This sentiment echoes a common theme among the group – golf offers not just physical activity, but also mental engagement and relaxation.

It’s evident that these fledgling players are gaining far more than just golf skills. They’re developing patience, focus, and a sense of accomplishment with each successful shot. The social aspect of the sport is also apparent, with participants forming new friendships and enjoying the camaraderie of learning together.

As their session comes to a close, Ian’s wife and invaluable assistant, Ali Pritchard, takes those who can stay for a short-course round, providing some real-world experience.

The Try Golf programme at Victor Harbor Golf Club Pro Shop is more than just an introduction to a sport – it’s an invitation to join a community, embrace a new challenge, and discover the joy of golf. Under Ian Pritchard’s guidance, participants are not just learning to play; they’re learning to love the game.
